This article addresses running a red light in Israel.  Everything related to Israeli traffic law is overseen by the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety.  

Automated Cameras

In Israel, the police use a system of automated cameras in order to try and discover who is illegally driving through red traffic lights. The cameras are usually triggered by a floor panel that is activated when a vehicle drives over it after the traffic light has already switched to red. The camera usually takes two photographs in quick succession to prove that the vehicle drove all the way through the intersection. Running a Red Light in Israel

Penalty for Running a Red Light in Israel

When a driver is accused of disregarding a red traffic light in Israel, the penalty is usually 10 points (the most points caused by a single violation) and a fine of 1,500 NIS. Israel has a system of traffic violation points wherein each violation causes a certain number of points to be counted against the driver. The points last for two years from the time of the offense. If a driver accumulates more than 12 points, they will be required to take a proper driving course. More points carry more severe consequences. For example, 36 points would result in a suspension of the driver’s license for three months.
